Chongqing Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital is the largest and most advanced tertiary-level Chinese medicine facility in the city. It integrates four key functions: medical treatment, education, scientific research, and public welfare. The hospital serves as a network hospital for the International Emergency Rescue Center (IERC), as designated by the National Health Commission (NHRC). It is recognized as a National Baby-Friendly Hospital (NBFH) and is a National Clinical Trial Institution (NCTI) for drugs. Additionally, it supports the National TCM Epidemic Prevention and Control Team and Base and is one of the pioneering institutions in the National TCM Inheritance and Innovation Project. Chongqing Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital is responsible for the construction of the National TCM Inheritance and Innovation Center and the National TCM Rehabilitation Center. It has been included in the National TCM Inheritance and Innovation Projects Repository. The hospital is also recognized as one of the first National Standardized Training Bases for both Chinese Medicine Resident Physicians and General Practitioners. Furthermore, it is a National Key Specialized Base for the Standardized Training of Residents in Chinese Medicine General Practice. Currently, it serves as the First Affiliated Hospital and First Clinical College of Chongqing University of Chinese Medicine. The hospital ranks among the top tier in performance assessments of national tertiary-level public Chinese medicine hospitals.

The hospital is home to the Chongqing Sub-Center of the National Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Literature Retrieval Center and the Sub-Center of the National Acupuncture & Moxibustion Clinical Center. Additionally, it publishes a magazine called "TCM Emergency."
