A medical and cultural exchange event was held online between China and Barbados on Friday, during which traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) therapies such as acupuncture, guasha (scraping skin with a massage tool to improve the circulation), and baduanjin qigong exercises were showcased to attendees.

An important part of Chinese culture, TCM has also contributed to the control and prevention of COVID-19, said Yan Xiusheng, Chinese ambassador to Barbados. He hoped that China and Barbados will continue their joint efforts to work together in fighting against the pandemic.
TCM experts from Barbados gave lectures on their insights on TCM based on their local practice. Medical experts from China demonstrated baduanjin qigong exercises, which consist of a sequence of slow and relaxing moves. The traditional, low-intensity mind-body exercise that has been practiced for centuries by Chinese people attracted great interest from the attendees.

The event was co-hosted by a Chinese medical team, the Confucius Institute of Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies and Chongqing Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital.
